In the past pocket sprung mattresses have been made with traditional fillings like wool, silk, cotton and cashmere. Today the modern pocket sprung mattress incorporates the new foam filling of visco elastic memory foam. The leading manufacturers for pocket sprung mattresses are all stocked here at The Bed Shop.

Some mattress manufacturers have developed there own unique spring system. These modern spring systems are called featured springs or continuous coil spring systems. Manufacturers who make this type of mattress spring claim features and benefits to the sleeper like 'no roll together', 'no roll off' and 'extra support'. These benefits have been advertised on television and in the news from bed manufacturers like Silentnight who used the Hippo and the Duck. The Bonnell spring is available in different gauge springs to give the mattress a softer or firmer feel.

Over the past two years the UK mattress has been revolutionised by the introduction of foam mattresses. The three foams used are polyurethane foam, latex foam and memory foam. All these foams are also used in combination with springs. The UK seems to be following the European mattress manufacturers and making more and more foam mattresses. The most popular foam is without doubt visco elastic foam known has memory foam. The rapid increase in this type of mattress has seen the price of memory foam come down dramatically making memory foam mattresses more affordable and better quality.
